Family sessions should be:
- Casual. They need not be formal. And stiff. Casual makes for better results.
- No, you do not need to wear matching outfits. Nothing wrong with matching outfits, but complimentary colours work well. Wear what you feel comfortable in, but please no crazy, loud patterns and no wording on the front of those shirts. And snap a picture of those outfits before your session to send to your photographer. No, you don’t need to have them on.
- Be yourself. That’s most important. Relax. Breath. Laugh and have fun. Photographer’s can tell when you’re tense and even more so, it shows in the photographs.
- Portraits should not be trendy. Twenty years from now, you don’t want to look back and wonder what in the world you were wearing. Go light on the makeup. Don’t overdo it when it comes to doing your hair.
The goal is to capture the “real you.” Not the airbrushed version.
And most of all, have fun with it. It makes for better results.
