Location Scouting

Part of the process of a photo session is location scouting. I almost NEVER do a session without seeing the location FIRST. I have done a rare session or two without seeing the location in advance, but prep is so important for the best outcome of the shoot.

I spent a good part of the day today looking at locations for an upcoming family and senior session. The ideal location makes a perfect backdrop to capture the individual personalities. Simple is best, for the eye should focus more on the main subject(s) and not the background per se.

I stumbled upon this gem online yesterday and had to go check it out. It’s near my clients’ home and has several beautiful backdrop ideas. Plus, the red mill just “pops” in the background.

Bright colors are ideal. Nature as a backdrop always works, unless it’s a thick forest and then, well, you might have to get extra creative with that one.

Til next time, my followers and readers.
